What Is Meditation And Its Benefits

There are different explanations of the word “Meditation” ,In latin meditor means to think or consider, In Sanskritt the word for meditation is “Madha” which means wisdom.

When a person goes deep within themselves , focusing the mind and discarding outside influences a deep state of peace and relaxation can be felt. When in this focused state the ability to notice ones thoughts and to observe the mind , body and spirit is produced , from here you can expand into a deeper spiritual awareness.

Meditation is not religious although many religions do practice particular types of meditation for example Buddhism. In the 1960’s Meditation became popular and research was carried out into its benefits.

Meditation can enhance your life in many ways:

It helps to reduce anxiety and stress

It can boost the immune system and help reduce physical pain.

Increases concentration

Identifies and balances emotions

It can help connect you to your direction in life and spiritual path.

Increases blood flow to the brain and lowers blood pressure.

Helps you to focus and promotes deeper sleep.

And more !!!

There are different meditation techniques:

Guided Meditation:

Guided meditations are visual guided journeys that can help with relaxation, spiritual awareness and can be empowering.

Transcendental Meditation:

This was developed by Maharishi Mahesh , he was a yogi. A specific mantra is given to you which is gently repeated in the mind when it comes to you and this helps to relax and stills the consciousness.

Zen Meditation:

This is a branch of buddhist Meditation, this can help with going beyond the logical mind . Its all about becoming aware of your breath and bringing your attention back to your breathing anytime your mind starts thinking. Its a powerful meditation tool.

Physical Meditations:

This includes practices such as Qi gong, Tai chi, Yoga and Pilates .

Finding the right technique for you is a very personal thing, the main thing is regular practice is essential in order to experience the full benefits. From my experience I do meditation twice a day morning and evening and it has a powerful effect, I do transcendental Meditation which works well for me . Even 5 minutes a day of meditation will have deep benefits and building it up to 10 or 20 minutes if you can would be amazing! …Give it a go!
