Top tips for anti ageing and keeping your skin looking young bright and clear

Having a good skin routine is a must , this cannot be stated enough and sometimes the simplest actions have the biggest impact and results.

Twice a day if you can commit to caring for your skin you will reap the rewards . It can go a long way to keeping your skin looking young, fresh bright and clear. Find a good brand of products that suits your skin and go for it!! and it doesn’t have to take long.

My go to brand is Eve Taylor as they use essential oils , plant extracts and leading technology to create a very effective range of products. There are many amazing brands and products on the market so go with what suits you , but if you’d like advice with Eve Taylor products please do ask me.

SKIN ROUTINE

I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT YOU:

CLEANSE TWICE A DAY

TONE TWICE A DAY

SERUM TWICE A DAY

MOISTURISE TWICE A DAY ( A DAY MOISTURISER AND A NIGHT TIME MOISTURISER OR FACE OIL )

EYE CREAM TWICE A DAY

SPF CREAM IN THE DAY ( ON TOP OF YOUR DAY CREAM IF IT DOES’NT HAVE SPF )

Use a small amount of product , people tend to use too much! . Professional brand products can be more expensive but they are worth it. The ingredients used will be good quality and therefore you don’t need a huge amount. When layering your products Less is more!! and you will get better results. Your face products should be lasting a long time , so bear this in mind.

I will explain what a good skin routine actually does for your skin and why it is important.

CLEANSING:

You can use a cream cleanser ( good for dry or ageing skin ) or a facial wash ( good for oily/ combination skin ) although choose what you prefer. My choice is a facial wash as I like that really clean feel on my skin.

Cleansing really cleans the skin, the amount of daily grime , dust and pollution that accumulates on the skin is more than you would think , so treating our face twice daily to a proper cleanse is important.

TONING:

Toning cleans off any excess cleanser , balances the skins PH levels and prepares the skin like a blank canvas for applying serums and moisturisers . They can be used throughout the day as a refreshing hydrating spritz too.

SERUMS:

serums are usually lighter then day or night creams and are packed with nutrients and ingredients to improve the skin. you can choose serums to target specific skin conditions for example oily/combination skin, pigmentation, sensitive skin or for hydration and anti ageing.

For ageing skin you need serums that contain ingredients such as hyaluronic acid which helps to saturate the skin with layers of moisture to plump the skin, give a dewy look and encourage healthy functioning of the skin. Hyaluronic acid is one of the most effective Humecant’s and has hydrating compounds. Vitamin C brightens the skin and evens the skin tone and colour and antioxidants help protect the skin , rejuvenate, smooth and help with firming. Peptides help increase collagen and elastin production . These are all of the types of ingredients you want in your products to help with ageing skin.

You would use a small amount of serum underneath your day or night cream.

MOISTURISERS:

MOISTURISER! well this says it all really it moisturises the skin! . In terms of anti ageing moisture is key, and lack of it can increase lines and give the skin a crepe look. Having very hydrated skin can hide a multitude of sins! and make you look younger. As we get older our skin can become dryer so moisturising morning and at night really helps. Face oils at night time I find are good , as oils penetrate the skin deeply and is a good overnight conditioning treat.

EYE CREAM:

Eye creams are important as they target those fine lines, deeper lines and crows feet around the eyes. Eye creams are usually a bit lighter or a gel like consistency which is ideal for hydrating and smoothing the delicate skin around the eyes. Using twice a day , morning and evening will give you maximum benefit . Only a small amount is needed and use it all around the orbit of the eye area .

SPF CREAM:

” Everybody Is Free To Wear Sunscreen ” a song written by Baz Luhrmann, fantastic advice! , check it out if you don’t know this track its brilliant! and inspiring , but seriously wear sunscreen! the long term use of sunscreen has been proved by scientists and it will help with anti ageing.

Wear Spf everyday and even in the winter months . I would choose an SPF cream specifically for the face, my day moisturiser has Spf factor 30 in it which is perfect. If your day moisturiser doesn’t contain sunscreen then do put some on over your day cream .

EXFOLIATORS:

MY TOP TIP FOR YOUNGER LOOKING SKIN IS TO EXFOLIATE! this is written in capitals to high light how important I feel this is! . Exfoliation is a way to help the skin to produce more collagen . From the age of 40 years old and onwards our collagen production in the body is lower , therefore we need to spend time helping our body to increase our collagen which is very doable.

EXFOLIATE TWICE A WEEK and your skin will look brighter , be cleaner,  have more collagen , plumpness and hydration . The creams and products you use will work better as they will go down into the deeper layers of the skin, otherwise products tend to sit on the surface of the skin creating a  dull look and feeling. Exfoliating helps to maximise the benefits of your products so its a very important step to a skin routine.

There are 2 types of exfoliators , physical exfoliators usually have grainy beads in them and also have a creamy consistency that gently buff the skins surface leaving the skin with a healthy glow.

Resurfacing exfoliators are often creamy in texture and smooth and much like a mask you would leave them on for about 10 minutes depending on the product. They often have ingredients such as glycol and lactic acid which is amazing for anti ageing, smoothing the skin, hydration and encouraging the skin to produce more collagen. Resurfacing cream exfoliant by Eve Taylor is a fantastic cream exfoliant for anti ageing which I highly recommend.

FACE MASKS:

Once a week treat yourself to a pampering face mask , masks treat the skin, hydrate it and deeply condition the skin. you can choose a mask for your skin type and can focus on using an anti ageing mask with plenty of vitamins , essential oils and antioxidants to really nourish and hydrate the skin . You will see and feel the difference in your skin if you get into a routine of wearing a face mask once a week, and it only takes 10/15 minutes.

If you treat your skin well on a daily basis I can promise you will see and feel a difference in the condition, feel and look of your skin.

Treat yourself to facials from time to time , in a facial you will have the added benefit of facial massage which has a powerful effect on the tone of your skin and the relaxation aspect will calm your body mind and spirit.

There many electrical devices that can help with anti ageing and I will write another blog about these as this really ups the game in terms of keeping the skin looking supple and youthful . Devices such as Microdermabrasion, LED lights , Ultra sound and micro current are a natural way of hugely increasing your skins own ability to produce more collagen so an important area to talk about.

If you have any skin concerns or questions please do contact me , in the facials that I do I am always happy to give skin advice and product information.
